Fiji and Tonga: asylum's Island - The Economist

SEVERAL hundred years ago, the State of Fiji, the Pacific Islands was a place of refuge for the Princes exiled from neighbouring Tonga. It is now Tonga that serves as a destination for asylum-seekers blue-blooded of Fiji. Roko Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, son of the founder of the modern State, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara final, fled by sea, with the help of the Navy of Tonga.

 It is now under the protection of the use of homburg Tonga monarch, King George Tupou V, a distant relative of the father of the Mara Mr.

Until it was suspended in October, Mr Mara was commander of the regiment of Fiji. He had been a loyal ally of the coup leader and military Chief, Frank Bainimarama. Now in freedom in the capital of Tonga, Nuku'alofa Mr Mara denounces what he says is hurtful Commodore Bainimarama Government control exercised by the Attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. It calls for regime change.
